Welcome to the Equalities Framework for Wiltshire site. This site has been specifically set up to enable us all to share our thoughts on and contrbutions to the Framework as described below. We all know that the success of this framework depends on the committment to and participation of those in Wiltshire with an interest in driving forward the equalities agenda and with the knowledge to inform the process.

In April 2009 the district authorities of Wiltshire ceased and Wiltshire County Council became a Unitary Authority. The Equalities and Human Rights Commission has also been recently established and this has prompted both the local authorities and the VCS to consider how the needs of all equalities strands can be best supported.
As part of the progress towards this, there is an action within the Local Agreement for Wiltshire which reads:Develop an equalities organisation to fully represent the 6 equality strands
To support this Wiltshire Racial Equality Council was successful in securing funding from the Equalities and Human Rights Commission with the following aim: ‘To develop a cohesive framework to represent the six strands of equalities which will seek to influence policy and strategy and deliver services appropriate to need across the County of Wiltshire’
In support of the above aim, Wiltshire County Council and Salisbury District Council contributed towards this initiative to ensure that a vision was developed on how equality outcomes can be best delivered for the benefit of all communities in Wiltshire. The project was managed by a Task & Finish group made up of representatives of the public and voluntary sector in Wiltshire. A detailed needs analysis was carried out with research across Wiltshire and a framework has been produced. Both these documents can be found in the Documents and Background section of this site.
